William Byrd’s Mass for Four Voices is a pillar of the highly contrapuntal Renaissance style. Our winter concert intersperses this piece with twentieth and twenty-first century works that carry echoes of this musical legacy. Featured composers include Mark Butler, Melanie DeMore, Sarah MacDonald, Ken Burton, Jean Berger and Florence Price.

VESPERS OF PRAISE: MOZART, VIVALDI, NUNES GARCIA

Friday, May 17, 2024 at 8:00pm

Our spring concert celebrates musical settings of the Vespers in performance with chamber orchestra and soloists from the GVCS membership. Mozart’s powerful Vesperae solennes de confessore, K. 339 features the famous “Laudate Dominum” aria as well as multiple movements that showcase Mozart’s innate brilliance for vocal composition. Alongside works by José Maurizio Nunes Garcia and Antonio Vivaldi, this program will stir the soul at our final performance for the season.
